The major expense of the materials was the 2" cold rolled steel round bar. The retailer I bought it from sells it for $7.21 per foot with a $10 cutting labor fee for the small amount I wanted.  I also bought the 1/2" cold rolled steel from the same company.  It was cheaper for me to buy a 10' piece they had than have them cut the 4 seperate pieces I needed for the roller axles.  1/2" is pretty easy to cut so I didn't mind having to cut it. The brass oil impregnated bearings actually cost around 37 cents each from McMaster-Car.  I bought a total of 8 to have as spares if necesary, with shipping they cost about $4.00. The 1 3/8" cold rolled steel I had already had about a 12" length of.  I cut two 1/2" pieces from it. I bought some allen set screw of various lenghths before I started the project because I wasn't sure exactly which sizes I wanted to use.  I ended up using 3/4" and 1/2" size lengths. For the allen bolts I used 1/2" and 5/8" size lengths.  For the draft plate, hopper and base I used scrap board and lumber I had. Even though I paid the $10 cutting fee and paid some shipping for the bearings, I think $38 is quite an affordable amount to spend for materials.
